CALIFORNIA STATE FOP CONFERENCE REPORT August 18-19, 2014

I had the opportunity to attend my first FOP State Conference recently.  Orange County Lodge 18 hosted this impressive conference at Disney's Paradise Pier Hotel.  The event was well attended and had numerous guest speakers.  More importantly, the information disseminated was relevant to both active and retirees particularly regarding the pension/benefit issues before the public.

The Honorable Todd Spitzer was one of several keynote speakers of the conference.  You may remember him as a former California State Assemblyman, Deputy District Attorney for Orange County and a current Orange County Supervisor.  He also has been a level 1 reserve police officer for the City of Los Angeles and has served the community in many ways too numerous to mention.  Many agree that Assemblyman Spitzer will represent our concerns fairly and competently.

State President Roger Mayberry briefly reported the National FOP is providing support to the involved officer from Ferguson, Missouri during this difficult period.  Without judgment, I believe the unfortunate circumstances is traumatic for everyone involved.
President Mayberry also expressed his intent to run for a position within the National FOP Board.  You may recall he is currently the Sergeant-at-Arms on the national board. The conference of members acknowledged his hard work and agreed to support him in a re-election campaign both politically and monetarily.  He was honored and hopes to be able to continue his work and representation of the California FOP.

President Mayberry was proud to announce the California FOP mobile food trailer was nearly complete.  This would be used in times of disaster and special events by the FOP.  We were able to tour the modern facilities available which were very impressive.  Completion of the project still requires cooking utensils and a permanent towing vehicle.

Congratulations to our own Lodge 52 for offering to host the next FOP State Conference in 2016.  The offer was discussed and enthusiastically accepted at this year's conference.  I believe we have a great deal to offer here in Silicon Valley with unlimited venues and resources.

As a new member to this organization, I found it to be professional and unified in its mission.  In the past year, the California FOP gained over one thousand new members and continues to grow in strength and numbers.  Nationally, we are over 325,000 members strong.  The professionalism of national, state and local FOP leadership will ensure continued success and growth.  Observation of the large group of participants at this conference reinforces a belief that whether active or retired, all are afforded the same respect and equal voice.

Respectfully submitted,
Bob Gallardo,

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone, from members, to supporters, to just interested parties, helping us be successful. My message is simple: support the law enforcement community which is really another way of saying support our community and the public we (still) serve.
